With over sixteen years combined education, advanced training, and experience in technical direction, professional performing arts management, design, and construction, Daniel is currently serving as the faculty technical director at California State University, Los Angeles.
After obtaining a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) and completing post-graduate studies at CalStateLA, Daniel began his professional career as the Resident Scenic Designer and Director of Marketing at the Modern World Cabaret Theatre in Grand Junction, Colorado. While in this position, he demonstrated an expertise in identifying emerging markets, increasing revenue, and implementing innovative marketing strategies, elevating the Cabaret’s status to become the state’s second-largest dinner theater and sixth-largest theater overall.
Following his departure from the Cabaret, Daniel relocated back to the Southern California region, where he continued working in the arts as a Technical Director, Production Manager, and Theatre Facilities Coordinator in a variety of venues, including A Noise Within, Long Beach Opera, and California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. Currently, as an Assistant Professor, Daniel provides oversight to the Design and Production program for the Department of Theatre and Dance at CalStateLA, where he has also taught Introduction to Stagecraft, Specials Topics: Advanced Stagecraft, Introduction to Lighting and Sound, and Drafting for Theatre. He also facilitates the Production Practicum courses, and has lead Directed Studies in Welding. Finally, Daniel serves as the Technical Director for department productions.
As an alumni and faculty of CalStateLA, Daniel has made it a priority to support the university as a whole by volunteering as a technical supervisor on projects with the Office of University Advancement, and by serving as an elected senator, representing the Department of Theatre and Dance on the Academic Senate.
Daniel is dedicated to his students, inspiring them to pursue academic and personal excellence; he consistently strives to create a safe and engaging environment in which students are able to explore and share new ideas and perspectives while advancing their design and production prowess.
Above all, Daniel enjoys spending time with his family and is grateful for the opportunities and experiences God has blessed him with.
